Abstract

In photosystem II (PS II) the sequence of light-driven electron transfer reactions results utlimately in the oxidation of water to O2 and the reduction of plastoquinone. Recent reviews on photosystem II and oxygen evolution include, among others, articles by Babcock (1987), Mathis and Rutherford (1987), Witt et al. (1986) and Hansson and Wydrzynski (1989).
