Zusammenfassung

The first report on the principles of the quantum theory given in Handbuch der Astrophysik III/1 was supposed to cover the time up to spring 1927. Since that time atomic theory has expanded in so many ways that a modern restatement of the fundamental principles would look rather different from the one given in 1927, and would have required considerably more space. This task, therefore, cannot be undertaken in the present supplementary volume, and we shall have to be content with a very brief report on the principal points of progress in the past seven years.
