Abstract

This Chapter introduces some theories supporting Intensive variable. The basic theory is the law of diminishing returns (LDR). In practice, the effect of the LDR is not distinct. Efficiency is a common goal for the use of limited land resources. Then the intensive land use concept was proposed. The concept of intensive growth was first introduced during the course of economic development. Since the introduction of the intensive land use concept, researchers globally have been trying to develop methods to determine the extent of intensive use. Therefore, we propose the “Intensive variable (IV)” as an overarching concept that covers diminishing returns, intensification, and sustainable development in an attempt to review the development of human society from a higher level with a more extensive vision.
