Zusammenfassung
Anhaltende, quälende Müdigkeit ohne klaren Grund verbunden mit Erschöpfung und Schwäche nach geringsten Anstrengungen sowie Kopf- oder Muskelschmerzen sind beunruhigend. Die Symptome wecken Verdacht auf eine somatische Ursache, weshalb eine umfassende Abklärung durch Spezialisten verschiedener Fachrichtungen angezeigt ist. Denn eine Vielzahl verborgener Leiden und vor allem unerkannten Schlafstörungen kommen als Ursache in Frage. Liegt keine fassbare Ursache vor, ist ein Müdigkeitssyndrom (Chronic Fatigue Syndrom, CFS) in Betracht zu ziehen. Diese funktionelle Störung ist der Neurasthenie, welche bei uns kaum noch diagnostiziert wird, sehr ähnlich, wobei für das CFS lange Zeit eine somatische Ursache (unerkannte Infektionskrankheit) vermutet wurde. Sie ist eng verwandt mit dem FMS und der atypischen Depression, welche in Kap. 2 besprochen werden.
