Kolorektale Karzinome (KRK) sind die häufigsten bösartigen Tumoren des Gastrointestinaltrakts und die zweithäufigste zum Tod führende Tumorerkrankung in Deutschland. In Deutschland verstarben 1997 29774 Patienten an den Folgen eines kolorektalen Karzinoms. Jährlich treten in Deutschland <55 000 Neuerkrankungen auf.
