Glacial Changes in the Areas of Admiralty Bay and Potter Cove, King George Island, Maritime Antarctica

Geoecology of Antarctic Ice-Free Coastal Landscapes

Part of the book series: Ecological Studies ((ECOLSTUD,volume 154))

Abstract

The Antarctic Peninsula is a transition zone, where climatic settings vary between a temperate north and a more polar-influenced south and between a polar-maritime west coast and a continental east coast. Due to these particular climatic conditions and its location as a physical barrier to tropospheric circulation, the Antarctic Peninsula represents an area of highest sensitivity to changes in the climatic system. In recent years, a number of indications for climatic changes affecting this region have been detected.
