Zusammenfassung

Eine Behandlung älterer Tumorpatienten ohne Beachtung der verschiedenen Einflussfaktoren wird unsere zunehmend kostenorientierte Gesellschaft nicht mehr dulden. Darüber hinaus wird sie auch von dem älteren Patienten mit zunehmender Aufklärung über mögliche Therapieprobleme und -folgen nicht mehr kritiklos angenommen werden. Andererseits ist es bei den bestehenden großen Fortschritten gerade auch in der geriatrischen Onkologie nicht hinzunehmen, wenn aufgrund dieser Fakten den älteren Patienten mit bösartigen Tumorerkrankungen eine erfolgreiche Therapie vorenthalten würde (Harlacher u. Füsgen 1998).
