Abstract

The core of the present survey is formed by the experimental data obtained in Xenopus laevis. The description of the techniques used is therefore largely restricted to the procedures used for this anuran. The X. laevis larvae were obtained by induced breeding (intraperitoneal Pregnyl injection), and kept in fresh tap water at room temperature (20–22°C). A wealth of data on various aspects of the circuitry of both tadpoles and adult X. laevis were available, obtained with tract-tracing techniques and immunohistochemical procedures.
