Abstract
The problems addressed here are convergence distortions of Navier-Stokes calculations with the k-ω turbulence model on structured grids with high-aspect-ratio cells using multigrid. Such calculations are typical for aerodynamical applications at flight Reynolds numbers. As the multigrid smoother basically is the same for the mean flow equations and the turbulence equations but adapted to the turbulence source term it seems to be appropriate to improve other multigrid components. Therefore two modified prolongation operators are introduced and discussed. 2d calculations with these operators are shown. Some heuristic remarks as well as a von Neumann stability analysis for a 2d convection-diffusion model equation including a source term will be presented.
