Towards Competition in Network Industries

Abstract

In giving my account on the status of telecommunications in Finland, I shall start with a few facts about my country. The land area of Finland is over 300 000 sq. km in size, and its population stands at over 5 million. Finland is the most sparsely populated country in the European Union. There are vast areas, where population density is very low. In terms of telecommunication this means long transmission lines and few opportunities for traffic concentration.
