Abstract
Ovarian tumors are the fourth leading cause of female cancer death in th west (6.6%) and the fifth leading cause in the east (6.9%). Data on mortality trends, available in the west since 1968 and in the east since 1980, show a constant trend until the early 1980s. A downtrend began in about the mid-1980s in both parts of Germany, coinciding with the introduction of a new combination therapy that included the antineoplastic agent cisplatin (Neijt 1995). The age-standardized mortality rates for 1900 were 7.6 in the west and 7.0 in the east.
