Summary
Three types of no-stich corneal tunnel incisions were tested for their clinical applicability: an inverse U-shaped external corneoscleral entrance of 2 and 2.5 mm in width and an inverse L-shaped entrance of 2.5 mm, each combined with an internal U-shaped exit of about 4.5 mm in width. Minimal corneal tunnel length amounted to 1.5–2 mm. Silicone, acrylic and hydrogel lenses of 6 mm diameter and up to 27 dptr. could pass the openings without difficulty. Wound-induced corneal astigmatism was near measurable limits.
From a clinical point of view, the L-shaped wound construction seemed to be the most favourable.
