Abstract
A stormy century is coming to an end and it is time to stop for a while and think about what important results the 20th century has been able to contribute to the development of Western culture. Since I am a physicist, I am inclined to see my own field as especially important. “Who drives with oxen, he speaks of oxen.” So I think that later, when enough time has passed, the importance of some physicists will become more obvious — as was the case with Newton and his achievements in the 17th century.
