Zusammenfassung
Die Achondroplasie ist eine autosomal dominante Erkrankung. Die Häufigkeitsangabe schwankt zwischen 1:22 000 und 1:200 000. Obgleich die Krankheit vererbt wird und Fertilität bei achondroplastischen Patienten besteht, ist die Anzahl der Neumutanden in der Population 80–90%. Die Diagnose wird aufgrund der typischen Veränderungen bereits bei Geburt durch die charakteristischen Stigmata (hohe Stirn, abgeflachte Nase, Hyperlordose lumbosakral, Brachydaktylie und dysproportionierter Kleinwuchs mit stärkerer Verkürzung der Extremitäten) gestellt. Weniger häufig findet sich eine Schwerhörigkeit, die operativ korrigiert werden kann. Mädchen haben eine durchschnittliche Erwachsenenhöhe von 120, Jungen von 130 cm (s. hierzu die entsprechenden Percentilenkurven, Kap. 2).
