Zusammenfassung
Primäre Tumoren des Herzens und des Pericards sind selten. Nur etwa 600 Fälle, zumeist Einzelbeobachtungen, sind beschrieben worden. Dieses Ausmaß an Literatur im Verhältnis zu dem ungewöhnlichen Vorkommen der Herztumoren und damit ihrer relativen Unwichtigkeit als Ursache einer klinisch manifesten Herzerkrankung hat nach Friedberg (1966) folgende Gründe:

Die klinische Symptomatologie der Herztumoren täuscht oft das Vorliegen gewöhnlicher Formen von Herzerkrankungen vor.

2.
Die Unsicherheit hinsichtlich der Pathogenese cardialer Myxome und Rhabdomyome.

3.
Die Suche nach verbesserten diagnostischen Möglichkeiten cardialer Tumoren zu Lebenszeiten der betroffenen Patienten.

4.
Die immer größer werdenden Möglichkeiten der chirurgischen Entfernung und damit Heilung von bestimmten Formen der Herztumoren.
