Abstract
There are three territories to be considered in critical care medicine (CCM) systems; primary crisis medicine (CPM), emergency medicine (EM), and intensive care medicine (ICM). The physician and nonphysician specialists rendering professional services in each of the three territories are in need of a sophisticated and integrated presentation of the curriculum and the core content expected of each professional. Computer assisted instruction (CAI) is an efficient and effective means to assure grass-root accessibility and rapid updating of the core content. Computer assisted consultation (CAC) can give in-hospital, 24-hour availability of Information and management assistance to each professional. Computer assisted recertification (CAR) offers antecedentto-patient-contact peer review and a private, non punitive, and educational means to annual recertification. The content of the CAI and CAR can be sequentially categorized (A, B, or C) by difficulty so that the professional can elect the level of sophistication he prefers (Introduction)
