Zusammenfassung

Aus gastro-enterologischer Sicht versteht man unter einem digestiven Sphincter ein System, das zwei funktionell verschiedene Räume ventilartig voneinander trennt. Diese Trennung kommt durch eine tonische Muskelkontraktion zustande, die sich u. a. als Zone erhöhten intraluminalen Druckes dokumentiert. Zur Erfüllung der Ventilfunktion ist es erforderlich, daß die Hochdruckzone während der Boluspassage in Koordination mit der Motorik der angrenzenden Funktionsräume reaktiv erschlaffen und kontrahieren kann. Der Begriff digestiver Sphincter ist damit funktionell, nicht aber morphologisch definiert.
