Performance of a Virtual Machine Monitor

  • Chapter
Virtuelle Maschinen

Part of the book series: Informatik-Fachberichte ((INFORMATIK,volume 18))

Abstract

This paper describes the performance of a Virtual Machine Monitor. A Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM) is an operating system which executes on the native hardware and allows other (standard) operating systems to execute in an environment much like the environment an operating system provides for user programs. These sub-operating systems are called virtual machines, or VMs, A VM looks to its contained operating system much like the actual machine looks to the VMM.
