Zusammenfassung
Wenn ein Atom aus seiner Elektronenschale ein Elektron abgibt oder aufnimmt, wird es zu einem Ion (Abb. 1). Ein Atom mit einem zusätzlich aufgenommenen Elektron ist negativ geladen, es wird als Anion bezeichnet, das Atom mit einem fehlenden Elektron ist positiv geladen und heißt Kation. Die Bezeichnung Anion bzw. Kation ergibt sich daher, daß im elektrischen Feld das Kation zum negativ geladenen Pol (= Kathode) und das Anion zum positiv geladenen Pol (= Anode) wandert (Abb. 2).
