Abstract

Neurological damage following open heart surgery has been a subject of much concern ever since the employment of cardiopulmonary bypass in cardiac operations. Various lesions including cerebral edema, petechial hemorrhage, focal infarcts, areas of ence-phalomalacia, and various kinds of emboli [1,2,8] have received considerable attention while intracranial hemorrhage and hematoma, especially the large ones, have been comparatively neglected. Only a limited number of cases has been reported [3 –7].
