Zusammenfassung

Der Reizdarm ist gekennzeichnet durch die Leitsymptome Abdominalschmerz und abnorme Stuhltätigkeit. Das Krankheitsbild ist sehr komplex. Nach allgemeiner Ansicht wird es vorwiegend durch funktionelle Störungen des Dickdarms hervorgerufen (Wienbeck u. Erckenbrecht 1982). Mehrere Untersuchungsbefunde weisen jedoch darauf hin, daß auch höhere Abschnitte des Verdauungstrakts in ihrer Funktion gestört sein können. Dies gilt besonders für den Dünndarm.
