Abstract
The cornea is the clear window in the eyeball by which pictures of the outside reach the inside of the eye. Owing to its curvature and smooth reflecting surfaces, it is part of the optical system of the eye. The transparent tissue of the cornea is void of blood vessels and therefore differs in structure, metabolism, and physiology from vascularized organs.
