Abstract
The incidence of brain metastases (BM) is increasing in patients with breast cancer (BC) under adjuvant chemotherapy, because the survival time is prolonged and in the early stage, the cytostatic effect on cerebral micrometastases is minimal because of the still preserved blood-brain-barrier (5). BM with clinical manifestations, on the other hand, have destroyed the barrier and are thus exposed to the pharmacological action of cytostatic agents and hormones which normally do not pass freely into the cerebrospinal fluid (8). In addition, 85% of patients with BM have métastases at other extracerebral sites (4). For these reasons, we treated patients with BM which were shown by CT and gave rise to neurological signs, by an aggressive and combined treatment of cytostatics and hormones.
