Abstract
This chapter deals with situations which are uncommon during a voyage. They assume the feature of an emergency, which means an unlikely event. An emergency does not follow any foreseeable rule; therefore it is impossible to give general instructions which may be considered valid for every case. Shipwreck, extremely long working hours without rest, extreme stress for long periods or at frequent intervals and extremes of temperature are discussed in this chapter.
