Incidence and Heterogeneity of DNA Aneuploidies in Solid Tumors and Acute Leukemias

Tumor Aneuploidy

Abstract

At present, the most widely accepted theory about the pathogenesis of malignant tumors postulates a monoclonal or primarily unicellular malignant cell transformation [10, 12, 22]. Recent results from cytogenetic studies suggest that a specific nonrandom chromosomal aberration may be involved in this early step of cancer development [19, 34].
