Abstract
History. Ameloblastic odontoma has been recognized as an entity within the group of odontomas only since 1946, at which time it was termed a “soft odontoma” (Thoma and Goldman 1946). In a later classification of odontogenic tumors, ameloblastic odontoma was assigned to the group of epithelial odontogenic tumors with an inductive effect on the mesenchyma (Pindborg and Clausen 1958). Finally three forms of odontoma were defined: complex odontoma, compound odontoma, and the rarest, ameloblastic odontoma (Gorlin et al. 1961).
