Environmentally Devastated Areas in River Basins in Eastern Europe

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASEN,volume 45))

Abstract

In the projects of pollution control and integrated rehabilitation of polluted and devastated areas, it is common to opt for mechanical (primary), biological (secondary) and even physical-chemical (tertial) treatment of domestic waste waters. However, in the sites heavily polluted by industrial or agricultural activities, evenly dispersed over large areas or concentrated in point sources (dumps of industrial wastes, etc.), pollution from these locations can generate harms for both surface and ground waters. The pollution of storm-water runoff is analysed in what follows.
