Zusammenfassung

Obgleich sich in den letzten Jahren zunehmend die Auffassung durchgesetzt hat, daß die Folgen psychischer Störungen im höheren Lebensalter zu einem der bedeutsamsten sozial- und gesundheitspolitischen Probleme geworden sind (Häfner 1986), steht man in der Gerontopsychiatrie im Grunde noch am Beginn einer systematischen quantifizierenden Verlaufsforschung. Typisierende Beschreibungen des Krankheitsverlaufs und vereinzelte, nur eingeschränkt vergleichbare Unter-suchungen zeichnen ein bislang eher lückenhaftes Bild. Einige Pionierarbeiten aus länger zurückliegenden Jahren trugen indessen maßgeblich zur empirischen Fundierung bei und stimulierten bis in die heutige Zeit Replikationsstudien.
