Abstract

This paper is about a number of disorders occurring in children and adults that, although they have different etiologies and variable clinical expression, share three constant features: acquired hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia and renal damage, and one common histological lesion mostly referred to as thrombotic microangiopathy, a term introduced by Symmers in 1952.
