Part of the book series: Progress in Botany/Fortschritte der Botanik ((BOTANY,volume 50))

Abstract

Development is controlled by a well-defined temporal and spatial program of gene expression. A dominating theme in current developmental physiology is the regulation of gene activity, which requires a precise interaction of structural and regulatory genes. Progress in molecular biology, combined with the use of transgenic plants to study the expression of foreign genes, has greatly increased our knowledge about regulatory processes in development.
