Abstract
During my term as Vice-President of the Hebrew University, I did not give up research and teaching. This proved difficult, as together with Mazar, who was the President as well as being charged with routine administration of the University, we were assigned the task of getting the new campus on Givat Ram built. Much of my time was taken up with this. Every building was planned by a different architect and they wanted to erect monuments showing their geniality that did not generally take into account the primary function of the buildings. After much discussion, we succeeded to some extent in adapting these plans to suit the prevailing conditions trying to steer clear of unnecessary luxuries such as massive entrance halls, expensive marble tiles and mosaic-covered pillars.
