Abstract

In Belgian woodlands Blue Tit Parus caeruleus breeding numbers can be increased by providing nestboxes. When all nestboxes have an entrance hole which permits Great Tits also to use them, the breeding density of Blue Tits is around 1.2 – 1.5 pairs per ha in optimal habitat (Dhondt et al. 1982, Dhondt 1985a).
