Summary
This paper describes an approach to use hypertext to support authoring of linear text in the sense of conventional (technical) literature like books, papers, reports, etc. We try to model and treat such authoring as an explicit process. It makes excellent use of hypertext, satisfying the need for external representations in the course of authoring. We found indications that this process can also help for authoring hypertext systems themselves. A prototypical implementation of a system based on this approach has been used to write this paper.
