Progress in Botany

Part of the book series: Progress in Botany/Fortschritte der Botanik ((BOTANY,volume 53))

Abstract

During the past few years there has been an increase in interactions between paleobotanists and neobotanists, and several integrated publications have appeared. In two volumes published as a result of the symposium Evolution, Systematics, and Fossil History of the Hamamelidae (Crane and Blackmore 1989a, b), neobotanical and paleobotanical investigations are integrated to address some of the problems involved in the classification of the group and its relation to other dicotyledonous subclasses. The volumes cover a wide spectrum of topics from karyological patterns to cladistic analyses. The fossil history of several families included in the Hamamelididae is summarized in several papers (see Sect. 4d).
