Zusammenfassung

Einleitend wird die Entwicklung der wissenschaftlichen Ansätze zur Messung von „Lebensqualität“ und „sozialer Unterstützung“ diskutiert. In der Forschungspraxis werden beide Konzepte als globale, mehrdimensionale Oberbegriffe für die Auswirkungen chronischer Krankheiten auf Lebensführung, Lebenszufriedenheit und Wohlbefinden bzw. für die Hilfen aus der sozialen Lebensumgebung zur Krankheitsbewältigung verwendet. Die inhaltliche Bedeutung der vorfindlichen Meßverfahren, insbesondere hinsichtlich der „Lebensqualität“, erschließt sich im Einzelfall eher durch die operationale Definition der erfaßten Einzeldimensionen als durch konsensfähige theoretische Konstrukte. Charakteristisch ist ein ausgeprägter Pluralismus theoretischer Ansätze und eine psychometrische Orientierung bei der Konstruktion der Meßverfahren. Rheumaspezifische Anwendungen der Meßinstrumente werden exemplarisch dargestellt und Forschungsstand und -notwendigkeiten für den deutschsprachigen Raum aufgezeigt.

Summary

The introduction discusses the development of scientific approaches to measure “quality of life” and “social support”. In current research both concepts are used as global, multidimensional terms to describe the effects of chronic disease on daily living, life satisfaction and well-being and the support from the social network to cope with illness. The content of the existing instruments is largely determined by the operational definition of their specific dimensions, not so much by agreed-upon theoretical constructs. This is especially the case for “quality of life”. The situation is characterized by theoretical pluralism and a psychometric orientation of instruments. The applications of measurement instruments in rheumatic diseases are described by examples, and the current state of research and further necessities in the German- speaking domain are discussed.
