Zusammenfassung

Fast 98 % der Tumoren in den ableitenden Harnwegen nehmen ihren Ausgang vom Epithel und sind fast zum gleichen Prozentsatz Karzinome. Die Zahl der Urothelkarzinome ist seit Mitte des Jahrhunderts weltweit angestiegen. Vor allem in Europa ist eine signifikante Häufigkeitszunahme zu verzeichnen. Die Beobachtungen haben zu verstärkten Aktivitäten in der Diagnostik und der Therapie der Urothelkarzinome geführt. Dabei sind jedoch erhebliche Unterschiede in regionaler Häufigkeit und Mortalitätsraten zu beobachten (Dhom u. Goebbels 1986; Malone et al. 1987; Morrison 1987; Birth et al. 1991).
