Major Fractures of the Pilon, the Talus, and the Calcaneus

Abstract

Severe foot trauma is often found in polytraumatized patients [3, 8–10]. General principles in the management of severe foot trauma have been advocated by Wright et al. [9]. These include: preserve circulation and sensation, preserve plantar skin and fat pads, encourage passive and active movement, prevent and control infection, maintain a plantigrade foot, and achieve bony union.
