Abstract

We report measurements of the molecular axis orientation dependence of dissociative scattering of 2.98 keV H + 2 and H 2 molecular beams from Cu(111) under glancing incidence conditions (perpendicular energies from 0.2–4 eV). The results show that neutralization of H + 2 at Cu(111) occurs predominantly to the X 1Σ+ g state, and that the neutralization step is orientation dependent.
