Zusammenfassung

Schlaf und Wachheit sind klar differenzierbare physiologische Zustände, die in starker wechselseitiger Abhängigkeit stehen. Psychische und körperliche Belastungen am Tag beeinflussen das Schlafverhalten in der Nacht, umgekehrt sind Befinden und Leistungsfähigkeit am Tag durch Dauer und Qualität des nächtlichen Schlafes modifiziert. Bei Patienten mit erkrankungsbedingt dauerhaft gestörtem Schlaf ist mit Beeinträchtigungen am Tag zu rechnen.
