Zusammenfassung
Die Zelle betreibt Stoffaustausch mit dem sie umgebenden Raum, in erster Linie mit dem „eigenen“ extrazellulären Kompartiment. Sie sekretiert Verbindungen unterschiedlicher Struktur und schleust Bausteine für die eigene Wand aus. Die Kommunikation mit dem extrazellulären Raum schließt die Aufnahme von biotischen Umweltsignalen ein; sie betrifft auch die stoffliche Wechselbeziehung mit anderen Zellen derselben Pflanze und mit anderen Organismen — bis hin zur Symbiose.
