Effects Of Persistent Organic Pollutants On Biota in the Baltic Sea

Use of Mechanistic Information in Risk Assessment

Part of the book series: Archives of Toxicology, Supplement 16 ((TOXICOLOGY,volume 16))

Abstract

In the end of the 1960s the detrimental effects of metals and organochlorines on Baltic biota were observed and the increased concentrations of anthropogenic substances in biota were correlated to decreasing populations of many fish feeding species (Hook and Johnels 1972, Sandegren et al. 1980, Olsson 1963, Heiander 1975, Lindberg 1975, Odsjö and Sondell 1976).
