Zusammenfassung

Seit der Erstbeschreibung des EEG durch Berger (1929) war die Kurvenbeschreibung von einer gewissen individuellen, untersucherabhängigen Variabilität geprägt. Die Zuordnung eines EEG im Kindesalter zu einem Normalbefund oder einem in der Grundaktivität abweichenden Befund war im Grenzbereich in hohem Maße vom jeweiligen Untersucher abhängig. Die Entwicklung von leistungsfähigen Computern in den 60er Jahren und die vermehrte EEG-Diagnostik durch rechnergestützte Analysen zeigte zunehmend, daß nicht Insuffizienz der Befunder Ursache dieser Problematik war, sondern die Vieldimensionalität der Befundung eines EEG im Kindesalter. Dies betrifft allerdings nicht die Differenzierung von pathologischen Graphoelementen oder epileptogenen Veränderungen, sondern die Beurteilung des Normal-EEG in einer bestimmten Altersstufe bei einem gesunden Kind bzw. die Festlegung der Schwelle zwischen normaler und abweichender Grundaktivitat, Die Entwicklung zahlreicher EDV-gestützter Methoden zur Analyse des EEG zeigte die Vielfalt der Ansatzpunkte, nach denen ein EEG zu beurteilen ist. Sie verdeutlichte aber auch, daß durch die Anwendung einer Methode oder einer Meßtechnik die Fragestellung ebenso wenig exakt beantwortet werden kann, wie dies ein visuell befundender EEG-Spezialist zu tun in der Lage ist.
