Zusammenfassung

Die medizinische Forschung wandte sich erst relativ spät der Untersuchung der Ursachen und Bedingungen suizidalen Verhaltens zu. Ein Problem der neurobiologischen Suizidforschung liegt in der Überlagerung suizidalen Verhaltens mit anderen Verhaltensdimensionen und psychiatrischen Krankheitsstadien. So ist das Suizidrisiko bei nahezu allen psychischen Störungen erhöht. Beobachtungen weisen darauf hin, daβ suizidales. Verhalten im Umfeld psychischer Störungen nicht ausschlieβlich als deren Folge verstaden warden kann, sondern mit einem genetisch, vermittelten Risiko assoziiert ist, das auch ohne vorheriges Auftreten der Störung verhaltenswirksam werden kann. Es liegen zudem Hinweise auf gemeinsame familiar-genetische Bedingungsfaktoren von suizidalem und aggresivem Verhalten vor. Mit beiden Verhaltensdeviationen sind auch Normabweichungen im Serotoninmetabolismus assoziiert. Bevorzugte Ziele genetischer Assoziationsstudien sind daher solche Gene, deren Produkte den Serotoninmetabolismus beeinflussen. Erste positive Assoziationsbefunde müssen allerdings noch bestätigt werden.
