Summary

Endocrine cells in gastrointestinal mucosa were found to be already differentiated in fetal rats. Entero-chromaffin cells (EC-Cells), gastrin cells (G-Cells) and enteroglucagon cells (A-Cells) were found fully developed in 18 day embryos, indicating that functional activity is already possible during the embryonic period.
