Abstract
An exact calculation of the scattering matrix calls for the numerical solution of a system of second-order scattering equations formulated using a basis of electronic functions. However, the basis functions and the corresponding interactions are usually known only approximately. The only exception is the interaction at large distances, where the general perturbation approach can be used (Chap. 4).
