Abstract
An optical technique is hereby reported for the in situ simultaneous measurement of size and two velocity components of droplets larger than the smaller dimension of the optical measuring volume in a dilute (liquid fraction smaller than about 6 to 7 percent) liquid-gas two-phase dispersed flow. It is based on the full integration of optical gating for droplet sizing with a two-dimensional reference-mode laser-Doppler anemometry. Results have been obtained for a validation experiment using a string of water droplets, in otherwise still air, which have two predominant velocity components.
