Abstract

The subjects were 25 patients from the drug rehabilitation center of the Ministry of Health in Jaffa, Israel, between the ages of 25 and 50. The subjects received daily, measured quantities of methadone (a synthetic substitute for opiates) in order to prevent withdrawal symptoms and to enable psychiatric intervention and a continuous rehabilitation program. Two subjects were female, 19 were Jewish, and 6 were Arab. The duration of the drug use was between 5 and 20 years, and the period of stay in the rehabilitation center, between 6 months and 11 years.
