Some Complexities in Aggressive Behaviour

  • Chapter
Socialization and Aggression

Part of the book series: Recent Research in Psychology ((PSYCHOLOGY))

Abstract

It is a great pleasure to be asked to contribute to this volume honouring Professor Koraadt’s great contribution to psychology and especially to the study of aggressive behaviour. This essay focusses on two main issues: first, the complexity and diversity of the causal factors underlying each aggressive act, and second, the importance, for understanding aggressive or hostile acts, of recognizing the dialectical relations between individuals, successive levels of social complexity, and the overarching socio-cultural structure of values, beliefs, conventions and institutions with their constituent roles.
