Zusammenfassung

In den sieben Jahren seit der Isolierung des ersten humanen Immundefizienzvirus (HIV 1) hat es eine sehr rasche Entwicklung diagnostischer Verfahren gegeben. Viele Probleme sind gelöst worden, einige aber auch neu hinzugekommen. Derzeit lassen sich die Aufgaben der virologischen HIV-Diagnostik folgendermaßen definieren:

    Therapieleitung

  4. 4.

    Epidemiologie

Über diese Anforderungen hinaus stellen sich zunehmend Fragen nach der jeweils optimalen Teststrategie in Abhängigkeit von der Fragestellung, der HIV-Prävalenz in der zu untersuchenden Population, den Laborvoraussetzungen und letztlich den finanziellen Möglichkeiten (Entwicklungsländer). In diesem Zusammenhang sind auch Kosten-Nutzen Analysen einzelner Screening-Programme zu sehen [4, 11, 22, 24, 31, 33].
