Abstract
Investigations into the use of interstitial hyperthermia started in France in 1977 at the Institut Gustave Roussy, with the preliminary works of Lebourgeois et al. (1978) followed by the physical works of Damia (1981) and the clinical experience of Cosset et al. (1982). This preliminary clinical experience was gained using parallel implanted needles and a home-made prototype built by the electronic laboratory of the Institut Gustave Roussy, and, later, using the first CGR Minerve system consisting of three generators of 25 W each operating at 0.5–1 MHz.
